Gift wrap is an easy add-on that shoppers appreciate, especially around holidays. With HS Slide Cart Drawer Upsell, shoppers add gift wrapping with a single tick in the cart drawer. The gift wrap is a regular Shopify product that you choose, so its price, taxes and inventory stay under your control and it appears on the order like any other item.

How it works for shoppers

  • A checkbox with the gift wrap title, price and an optional thumbnail appears in the cart.
  • Ticking the box adds gift wrap to the cart, and unticking it removes it.
  • If you offer several wrapping options as variants, shoppers choose the one they want.
  • Gift wrap is added once per order, and it's removed if the cart is emptied.

Set up gift wrap

  1. In Shopify, create a gift wrap product with its price and, if you like, variants for different papers or styles. Make sure it is active, in stock and available on your online store.
  2. In the app's settings for gift wrap, choose that product and the variants to offer.
  3. Write the text shoppers see. Use {{ Product-title }} to insert the product's title.
  4. Choose a thumbnail: the product image, an icon or none.
  5. Adjust the colors, bold title, font size and the price and compare-at price colors.
  6. Save and check the cart on your storefront.

Paid and free gift wrap

Paid gift wrap is always optional. It's added only when the shopper ticks the box; the app never adds a paid gift wrap on its own.

If your gift wrap is free, you can turn on Add automatically to the cart. This only applies to a free product with a single variant. Shoppers can still untick it, and it won't be added again automatically.

Best practices

  • Use a clear title and price, such as "Add gift wrapping".
  • Show a photo of the wrapping so shoppers know what they get.
  • Keep the gift wrap product out of your regular collections so it isn't bought on its own.
  • Pair gift wrap with the order note so shoppers can add a gift message.
  • Promote it during gifting seasons to increase average order value.

Troubleshooting

  • The gift wrap option doesn't appear: confirm gift wrap is enabled for this cart drawer, a product is selected and at least one selected variant is in stock and available on your online store.
  • Gift wrap isn't added automatically: automatic adding only works with a free, single-variant product, and not after the shopper has unticked it.
  • Gift wrap isn't listed with the cart items: in the drawer it's shown as the ticked option. It appears as an item at checkout and on the order.
  • The wrong price shows: gift wrap uses the variant's price in Shopify, so update it there.
