Some orders need extra information, and some stores need shoppers to accept their terms before buying. HS Slide Cart Drawer Upsell adds an order note field and a terms and conditions checkbox to the cart drawer, so you can collect instructions and consent before checkout without changing your theme.
Order notes
The order note lets shoppers add special instructions, such as delivery details or a gift message. The note is saved as the Shopify cart note, so you see it on the order in your Shopify admin.
Options
- Title and close text: the heading of the note and the text shown while the note field is expanded.
- Placeholder: example text inside the empty field.
- Expand by default: show the field open when the cart opens. Notes that already contain text always open automatically.
- Preset note checkbox: add a checkbox with your own label and note text. When a shopper selects it, that text is added to the cart note, for example "Please don't include the invoice".
- Style: color and font size for the title and the preset note, plus text case and weight for the title.
Terms and conditions checkbox
The terms checkbox asks shoppers to accept your terms before they continue to checkout from the cart drawer. The checkout button looks disabled until the box is ticked, and shoppers who try to continue without accepting see your error message.
Options
- Checkbox text: wrap the words you want to link in curly braces, for example: I agree to the {{terms and conditions}}.
- Link URL: the page that opens when shoppers click the linked words, such as your terms of service.
- Error message: shown when shoppers try to check out without accepting.
- Text size: the font size of the checkbox text.
Best practices
- Keep the note title short, such as "Add order note".
- Use the preset note for common requests so shoppers don't need to type.
- Link the terms to an up-to-date policy page.
- Write a polite, specific error message, for example "Please accept the terms to continue".
- Translate the note and terms texts for every store language.
- Use the block order to place both elements near the checkout button.
Troubleshooting
- The terms link doesn't work: make sure the linked words are inside curly braces and the URL is complete.
- The checkout button stays disabled: the terms box must be ticked. This is expected.
- The terms checkbox doesn't appear on the cart page: it's part of the cart drawer and doesn't change your theme's cart page.
- The note field is missing: check that the order note is enabled for this cart drawer.
