Shipping protection gives shoppers peace of mind about lost, stolen or damaged packages, and it gives your store an extra source of revenue. HS Slide Cart Drawer Upsell shows shipping protection as a simple toggle in the cart drawer. The protection is a Shopify product that you create and price, so you decide what it covers and how claims are handled under your store's policies.

How it works for shoppers

  • A toggle shows the protection's title, description and price, taken from your Shopify product, with an optional product image.
  • Switching it on adds the protection to the cart, and switching it off removes it.
  • Protection is always kept at one unit. It's included in the cart total, appears at checkout and on the order, and isn't listed among the cart items in the drawer.

Set up shipping protection

  1. In Shopify, create a shipping protection product with a single variant. Set its price, a short description of what it covers and, optionally, an image. Make sure it is active and available on your online store.
  2. In the app's settings for shipping protection, choose that product.
  3. Decide whether to show the product image.
  4. Style the title, description, price, compare-at price and the toggle color.
  5. Save and test the toggle on your storefront.

Paid and free protection

Paid protection is always the shopper's choice. It's added only when the shopper switches the toggle on; the app never adds paid protection automatically.

If you offer protection for free, you can turn on Add free protection automatically. Only free protection is added this way. If a shopper switches it off, it isn't added back automatically.

Best practices

  • Explain the coverage in the description in one or two short sentences.
  • Choose a price that feels small next to a typical order.
  • Keep the protection product out of your collections and search results so it isn't bought on its own.
  • Publish a clear claims process on your shipping or refund policy page.
  • If you use Route, you can show Route Package Protection through the app's integrations instead. Avoid offering two protection products at once.

Troubleshooting

  • The toggle doesn't appear: check that shipping protection is enabled for this cart drawer, a product is selected and its variant is available on your online store.
  • Protection disappears from the cart: the cart keeps only the protection the shopper selected with the toggle. Protection added another way is removed, and turning the feature off removes it from carts.
  • Free protection isn't added automatically: the product's price must be 0, and it won't be re-added after the shopper switches it off.
  • The price is wrong: update the product's price in Shopify.
